One Click to Disable Google Assistant/OK Google on Android Smartphone & Tablet

When the whole world saw Google launch its own artificial intelligence assistant, it was seen as just a substitute for Siri, but Google quickly built on its assistant and proved that it was more than just an assistant. Google Assistant is a virtual assistant in smart home devices such as Android phones and Google Nest. It can help users with various daily tasks. Just ask Google Assistant, and you can check the weather, find the scores of sports competitions, find relevant information, play media resources, even get help in mathematics, and so on.

However, these AI assistants are not always perfect and may even be annoying. Google Assistant may be too sensitive to voice prompts, and you may not want it to stay on standby. Or you may want to turn it off for privacy-related reasons. For whatever reason, you can disable the Google Assistant or OK Google in a few quick steps.

Now that you know why users want to turn off the Google Assistant or OK Google, you may realize that disabling it is also in your best interest. According to our experience, there is never a single solution that can get perfect results. On the contrary, trial and error is the best direction. Therefore, in order to guide you to disable the assistant, here are the solutions that we think are the most effective.

Disable Google Assistant on Your Device

  1. Start the Google application.
  2. Click on the menu icon (three dots in the upper right corner).
  3. Select “Settings” and then swipe down to select “Phone”.
  4. Find “Google Assistant” and click on the slider to disable it.

You can also follow the below steps to get the same result.

  1. Go to “Settings” app.
  2. Swipe down to the “Google Assistant” option and tap “Settings”.
  3. Swipe down to find and click on the “Phone” option.
  4. Find “Google Assistant” and then turn it off.

If you do this and close Google Assistant, it’s easy to enable it again. Just follow these steps again, and when you click the slider to make it blue, you can start using it! As a reminder, this will disable all aspects of Google Assistant.

  1. First navigate to your Google Assistant activity page and make sure you are logged in.
  2. Select the Delete Activity option in the menu.
  3. You will see a pop-up window asking you to select a time range. Select All time if you want to clear everything.
  4. Google will ask you to confirm whether you want to delete the selected activity. Once confirmed, the selected content will be cleared.

Disable the Support Button on Your Device

In addition to disabling all functions, there is another way to disable the support button of Google Assistant. Basically, if you accidentally use Google Assistant from the start button, disabling this setting can reduce the risk of this happening. More importantly, compared with the first method, this method has the advantage of allowing you to still use the application.

  1. Open the “Settings” app, and then scroll down to “Default applications”.
  2. Tap “Default Application” and then select “Device assistance app”.
  3. Switch the settings of the application that opens when the start button is pressed. Except Google, any other method is fine, but the possible choice is not to use any application.
